POWERLIFTING IN HAMPSHIRE

Elite-Bodyworks are an English Powerlifting Associated Club and sessions are run by EBW Coach and Commonwealth Junior Powerlifter Alex Pearson-Jones
Alex has competed internationally for England and has a desire to bring powerlifting into mainstream training as well as help develop those who have an interest in the sport.

Powerlifting is based on 3 lifts:

Squat
The lifter must bend the knees and lower the body until the top surface of the legs at the hip joint is lower than the top of the knees.

Bench Press
The lifter must lower the bar to the chest or abdominal area, hold it motionless, after which the Chief referee will signal the audible command ’Press’. The lifter must then return the bar to straight arm’s length elbows locked.

Deadlift
The lifter shall face the front of the platform with the bar laid horizontally in front of the lifters feet, gripped with an optional grip in both hands and lifted until the lifter is standing erect. On completion of the lift, the knees shall be locked in a straight position and the shoulders back.

Many people will do the “Powerlifting movements” in their regular gym training, however often these exercises are performed sub-optimally.

The aims of the powerlifting sessions are to teach the optimal mechanics and technique for you with the eventual aim of getting stronger and potentially competing.

Learning these movements well and knowing how to execute them will hugely benefit anyone’s training and sports performance.
